But First Let Me Take A Selfie...

You see it all the time in school, at work, even on the street. Everyone is taking selfies. A selfie is defined as a photograph that one takes of oneself with a digital camera or a front-facing smartphone, tablet, or webcam, especially for posting on a social-networking or photo-sharing website: selfies posted by teens on Twitter. Its becoming an obsession with teens and some adults. Now there are songs about selfies, and one is becoming really popular. You have probably heard it if you listen to the radio. Its called #SELFIE by the Chainsmokers, it does have a catchy beat but all its really about it a girl that's out partying taking a whole bunch of sefies.

Why do teenagers take so many selfies? Teenagers feel like they constantly need to be connected with other teenagers for approval. Approval for the outfit they are wearing, who they are hanging out with, where they are hanging out, and pretty much everything else in their life, they need lots of approval. As a society I think we need to take a step back after we take that "important" selfie, and ask ourselves is this really that important? What else could I be doing other than taking a selfie?  Technology is a great tool if you use it right, I just don't think taking selfies all day is a great way to use our technology.

Its almost scary how popular this new trend is getting. Its getting so popular that experts claim it is now spreading head lice in teens as they stick there heads near together to capture the perfect selfie. A teenager Danny Bowman, 19, spent 10 hours a day taking 200 snaps of himself on his iPhone. It got so bad he trying killing himself because he could not get the perfect selfie. Taking a perfect selfie was more important than his life! It's a trend that is getting way out of hand and making songs about it is not making it any better. I will admit that I have taken a good amount of selfies, but at the same time the whole concept is coming off as a pointless trend.

  1. I agree with you that teens are taking the whole "let's take a selfie" thing too far. It seems like taking selfies has gotten worse ever since Snapchat has come out. You make a good point when you say that teens need approval from their peers in every aspect of their life, but they could seek this approval in different ways other than sending selfies. While I admit to taking selifes, I would never consider killing myself because my picture wasn't "perfect" enough. The situation with Danny goes to show just how far teens are willing to go to get the perfect selfie.

  2. I think selfies are becoming way too big for something so insignificant. Our generation is constantly trying to prove themselves to the older ones with being able to use the numerous types of technology properly and effectively. How many times do you see teenagers walking down the sidewalk, street, or hallway and they will stop to take a picture of themselves? Often times I will notice the older peoples faces as they walk past and observe, almost as if they are embarrassed of them. We have all of these cool devices being made and people are so focused on taking pictures 24/7. I think the problem with technology too is that its taking a huge toll on the self esteem of many girls and boys around the world. You know the selfie game is becoming a problem when they start making horrible songs about it. I just try to live in the moment more and enjoy what I am observing, rather than wasting time taking pictures of it. But when it comes to that boy who took millions of pictures of himself, I think that is a really sad situation because he is still not even 20 and has so much more life to live! Everyone is beautiful! One selfie doesn't define your beauty.

  3. I completely agree that it's scary about how many people are becoming so obsessed about taking picture of themselves. It seems these days people are extremely self-centered because they always need to take selfies and post them for everyone to see. I think it's just a trend that everyone is going through because having a screen that faces toward us now on our new iPhones, hopefully people grow out of it. I think not only are people becoming self-centered by taking pictures of themselves but people, especially girls are becoming much more judgmental of other girls. It's sad that these days such dumb songs are becoming so popular.

  4. I definitely agree with this because I can relate to it! I also agree with it becoming a problem because teenagers are more worried about taking a good selfie when they should be worried about more important things. It shows how our society is becoming really obsessive about ourselves because all we seem to care about is if our selfies look good enough and how many likes we are going to get on them if we put them on the internet. As a society we need to focus more on important things in life and not get all tied up with things that shouldn't make as big of an impact on our lives like this popular selfie song.
