What has society come to?

While scrolling through Facebook the other day, I came across an article on who the children of tomorrow are looking up to. Attached to the article was this photo. 6 well known bands/singers, stating what they have done for our nation in the past few years. We have Metallica, going to meet one of their fans who was 90 YEARS OLD, in a nursing home. Nirvana, making sure to treat their fans with the respect they deserve. Blink-182, showing respect for a fan that had passed away, and Green Day making sure a school has a prom they deserve. Four bands that do good in the world, and who the children should be looking up to.

As you read on you see two very familiar bands/singers. One Direction and Justin Bieber. One Direction was approached and asked if they would do a free concert for a "Make-A-Wish" patient. They refused. Justin Bieber whom so many young girls and boys look up to, has been in nothing but a downward spiral. From spitting on fans, vandalizing parks, disrespecting very influential people, and of course driving under the influence.

It seems as though the children are looking up to the completely wrong people. Nowadays the celebrities that children are looking up to are nothing but negative influences. The bands or singers that don't need to be the center of attention are doing right in our world. I don't believe that anyone would want our children to be looking up to the type of people who are self-centered and want nothing but money. Something needs to seriously change.

  1. I completely agree with your article Brooke. It seems that all of the celebrities today are arrogant and think they can get away with anything. I understand that sometimes people make mistakes, but the fact that he repeatedly acts out is terrible. Thousands of kids look up to him and he continues doing whatever he wants a disrespecting a ton of people.

  2. I had no idea that One Direction turned down a Make-A-Wish patient because they weren't going to be paid. They are made out by the media to seem like kind hearted, giving people, but now that I know they did that I definitely think otherwise. As for Justin Bieber, I don't understand why his fans still stick up for him and adore him so much? He doesn't deserve fame and fortune or any kind of special treatment. He needs to be humbled somehow and, in my opinion, the first step to doing so is deporting him back to Canada where he belongs.
