Beyonce Grammy Performance: Parent's of Young Children Voice Their Opinion

Beyonce performed 'Drunk in Love' at the Grammy's Sunday night, accompanied later on in the song by her husband, Jay Z.  She wore a more revealing outfit than usual (pictured below) as she writhed about on a wooden chair with her legs spread.

Parents of young children have spoken out against Beyonce, claiming that her opening performance was too sexual and classless.  One particular tweet that went viral came from a mother in California, tweeting, "Beyonce, seriously?  It's 8:00.  That performance was NOT appropriate for children.  Thank God mine are in bed. #shameonyou".  I have a problem with claims like these.  Beyonce is not an child-friendly artist.  Her songs aren't made for children, and if your child is a fan of Beyonce that should come back to you as a parent.  If you let your children listen to her songs in the first place while knowing they aren't particularly meant for children, that is not Beyonce's fault.  It is so easy for parents these days to shift the blame onto someone else other than themselves.  When it comes down to it, it is your choice as a parent whether you let your kids watch the Grammy's.  Another scene that got people talking was the way Beyonce and Jay Z were dancing with each other.

Yes, they were touchy while performing, but they are married.  Isn't it okay for married couples to show affection?  Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke also got a lot grief for their performance at the VMA's in 2013, but the difference is that Robin Thicke is married with children, which is why it caused so much controversy.

I do not think that Beyonce did anything wrong during her performance at the Grammy's.  Beyonce's fan group is mostly young women and teenagers, which should be able to handle a little racy performance.  If parent's of young children don't agree with what she is doing on stage all they have to do is change the channel.

  1. This is a very great thing to write about as your blog topic! Not only is it very recent but this issue is something our society faces. I agree completely that parents have control of what their children watch. They are able to control the remote to turn the channel, they don't have really have a say in what is put on the media.

Beyoncé loves music and that is why she does it for a career. In this society racy, wild, unexpected situations are what seem to grab our attentions the most. Parents may need to consider sacrificing watching the shows they like, such as the Grammys, so that their children do not need to see it. The media does have effect, but the parents are the true role models in how their children grow up.
